Women sought in boat death inquiry
Wais Kakar
Mr Kakar was seen talking to two women shortly before he died

Two women seen talking to a man shortly before he was struck and killed by a speedboat are being sought by police.

Wais Kakar, 27, from south west London, died after colliding with the propeller of a large motor boat while swimming off Bournemouth Pier, in Dorset, on Sunday.

Detectives are appealing for two women, of oriental appearance, seen talking to Mr Kakar on the beach by Bournemouth Pier between 1700 BST and 1800 BST to contact them.

A 40-year-old man from Poole arrested on Monday on suspicion of manslaughter was later released on bail.

The body of Mr Kakar, who was single and worked for a building society, was found 300 metres from the pier, in an area restricted to swimmers, police said.

A post-mortem examination on Monday concluded he died of multiple serious injuries - consistent with being struck by a boat's large propeller blade - and drowning.

Detective Constable Dawn Finlay, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said they still want to speak to anyone else who may have talked to Mr Kakar on the beach.

He said : "Friends who came down to Bournemouth with Wais for the day on Sunday have said that before Wais went swimming he was talking to two women of oriental appearance on the beach by the pier.

"It may be that the two women are studying at an international language college in Bournemouth and I'm appealing to them to please come forward and contact the police in confidence as we do need to speak to them."
