Church attacked by vandals
Graffiti on church
The graffiti was sprayed on using a stencil
Guernsey's Vale Church has been attacked by a group of vandals.

Four separate areas were daubed with graffiti and some of the graves were damaged.

The words "this used to be God's house - but he moved" were also sprayed in black paint on the church door, one of the walls and a window.

The rector of the church, Father Kevin Northover, said he thought it may have been a pre-planned attack because the writing was sprayed onto the walls with a stencil.

Insurance cover

Marble on some of the graves was also smashed during the attack.

Father Northover said: "People have been very shocked and upset to hear about it.

"A number of people have already been in the graveyard checking family graves to see if they're alright.

"It has had quite a strong reaction in the parish."

It is hoped the cost of much of the damage will be covered by the church's insurance.

However, anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious is being urged to call the police.
