Woman crushed by shop roof
A pensioner suffered serious head injuries when she was struck by masonry that fell on her from the roof of a high street store in Rugby.

The 77-year-old was walking through the Market Place on Tuesday afternoon when part of the roof of Boots Opticians collapsed on top of her.

She was airlifted to hospital where she is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Rugby Borough Council say the structure has now been made safe, but the shop remains closed.

The authority and the Health and Safety Executive have both begun investigations.

It is the second incident of a similar kind in Rugby just over a year.

Sandra Jones, 56, was killed when a wall on Chapel Street blew over in high winds as she cycled past in March 2002.
