Golf on the run
Simon Smith and Matt Chilman in action
The pair played 200 holes in completing the challenge
Two golfers have set a new UK record by playing 11 rounds in a day.

Simon Smith and Matt Chilman started their sporting marathon at Aston Wood Golf Club in Sutton Coldfield at 0200 BST on Thursday.

They managed to play in the few hours of darkness with the help of fluorescent lights and luminous balls.

By midnight, not only had the pair finished 11 rounds, most of it running, they also found time to complete two extra holes.

Second attempt

It is estimated Mr Smith and Mr Chilman covered about 75 miles during the golfing marathon - they also made 42 birdies.

Their success will be all the sweeter as the men failed in their attempt to complete 11 rounds last year, with bad light forcing them to throw in the towel just short of finishing the task.

"Last year we really suffered at the end," Mr Smith said.

"I went in to the pro shop and I can't remember the next day, day-and-a-half."

The men are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for cancer research.
