Body parts 'could be missing man'
Investigators on the beach
The remains were found at an area known as the Warren
Human remains found on a beach in Kent are believed to be those of a missing local man.

The body parts were discovered by a fisherman near Abbot's Cliff in Folkestone on Wednesday.

Kent Police said on Thursday tests were being carried out to confirm the body's identity but they believe it is a missing man from the Folkestone area.

A post-mortem examination will also be carried out to establish the cause of death.

Difficulty reaching scene

Police said they are not treating the death as suspicious and say they think the body may have been on the beach for about two months.

An investigation is underway to determine how the remains came to be at the base of the cliffs in an area known as the Warren.

It is believed the police had difficulty reaching the scene because of the location and a thunderstorm.

The coastguard was called to assist in retrieving the remains.

A Dover coastguard spokesman said the body parts were mainly bones.

He said they were not just found on the beach but up the cliff as well.
