West Mercia Police is to spend £1m on protective body armour for its officers.
Nearly 3,000 officers will be given the new vest which is designed to protect against bullet and stab injuries.
About 20 officers in the force have been wearing protective vests as part of a trial to find out which is the most comfortable.
The vests will be issued to officers in the Autumn.
Ian Arundale, acting Deputy Chief Constable, said: "The force and the Police Authority have been working to provide this vital equipment for staff as quickly as possible.
"However, it was essential that we provided vests that offered high levels of protection, but which were also practical and comfortable to wear.
"It was important that we gave those who will be using them a say in the process and we have been able to take on board the views of people who have been wearing the vests during their day-to-day duties."
