Artists paint landmark red
St George's Hall, Liverpool
Hoardings around the hall will be transformed
Young graffiti artists are to paint one of Liverpool's most famous landmarks red - and every other colour.

The street artists are to let be loose on St George's Hall to brighten it up while it undergoes renovation.

However, the historic building will not be damaged - the artists will decorate hoardings that currently surround the hall.

A multi-coloured mural depicting the city will be created, as part of the Liverpool Splash project.

The artists will create images to celebrate the city's cultural identity, including the Liver Birds, the two cathedrals and St John's tower.

Councillor Paul Clein, Liverpool City Council's executive member for Education, said: "It's such a brilliant idea to show off Liverpool's youth culture.

"This project gives youngsters the confidence and skills to promote the city at its best."

The project aims to show graffiti as a cultural art form - and give youngsters a chance to work together to the artwork.

The painting sessions are open to 12 to 19-year-olds.
