Serb warlord's widow released

The widow of the ultra-nationalist Serbian paramilitary leader known as Arkan has been released from prison after four months behind bars.

Svetlana Raznatovic, a popular music star in Serbia, was jailed in a massive police crackdown after the assassination of the former Serbian prime minister, Zoran Djindjic, in March.

In Serbia she is as famous, some would say infamous, as international icons like Madonna.

The arrest took her from the lap of luxury in her Belgrade home to the squalor of the city's central prison.

Ms Raznatovic, known to her adoring public as Ceca, was arrested over alleged ties to the key suspect in the murder of Zoran Djindjic.

Police later charged her with illegal possession of weapons.

Murky world

Ceca's lawyer told reporters that the investigation into his client is continuing.

The police inquiries following Zoran Djindjic's assassination have uncovered a murky world of organised crime and corruption, often involving high-profile figures.

The key suspect is still on the run but police say they expect the first trials to start in the autumn.

The political fall-out from the prime minister's death has left Serbia floundering.

There are daily charges made against the country's politicians.

The latest, this week, comes from the governor of the central bank.

He's promised to hand over documents he says prove allegations of corruption against senior members of the government.

The new prime minister says the allegations are unfounded.
