Hospice fund reaches £3m mark

The nearest hospice for many children is in Birmingham
An appeal to raise money for a children's hospice in Worcester has broken through the £3m barrier.

The Acorns Hospice Three Counties Appeal was launched by BBC Hereford and Worcester in April of last year.

About £4m is needed to realise plans for a state-of-the-art hospice, which would serve children in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and parts of Gloucestershire.

The facility is intended to serve children who currently face long journeys to the nearest hospice.

John Overton, Acorns' chief executive, said breaking the £3m barrier has given the charity the confidence to look at quotes from builders to build the facility.

He added that, although another £1m was required, he was confident the money would be found to complete the project by its planned opening date next year.
