A man has died after losing control of his car as he was being followed by police on Teesside.
The man, who has not been formally identified, was being followed by a Cleveland Police van in Ingleby Barwick, near Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.
A joint investigation is being carried out by the force's road policing unit and its complaints and discipline department.
The incident has also been referred to the Police Complaints Authority.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "Police became aware of a white Ford Escort as it was travelling in Ingleby Barwick at 2300 BST on Tuesday.
"As it approached a roundabout at the junction of Beckfields Avenue and Barwick Way, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned and crashed.
"The man was treated by paramedics, but they were unable to save him and he was later declared dead at the scene.
"A thorough investigation is being undertaken and a post-mortem examination will be carried out on Wednesday."
