Two police officers have been injured while pursuing a stolen car in Swansea.

Both were taken to hospital with whiplash injuries after their police car was in collision with the stolen Maestro but have since been allowed home.

A stinger operation was used to bring the stolen car to a halt after the high speed chase which started in Ammanford in Carmarthenshire at 0400 BST on Tuesday.

Three men in their 20s were arrested and are in police custody.

The Maestro was spotted by Dyfed-Powys Police in the village of Capel Hendre, near Ammanford, after an occupied house was set on fire.

Whiplash injuries

Officers approached the car to question the three men inside about the alleged arson, but the vehicle was driven off and headed towards the M4.

When it reached Swansea officers from the South Wales force took over the pursuit.

The stolen car was brought to a halt on Gower in a stinger operation.

A stinger is a device which can be thrown across the road and disable car tyres in a controlled burst.

A spokesman for the South Wales force said: "Two police officers were injured when struck by the Maestro. Both officers were hospitalised with whiplash injuries."
