Shady outlook for youngsters
Children in sunglasses
Youngsters are learning the health benefits of sunglasses
Children at a primary school in the East Midlands have made an important addition to their summer school uniforms.

Youngsters at St Mary's Catholic Primary in Nottingham have donned sunglasses - to highlight the health benefits and help a good cause.

Head teacher Jim McGowen said: "We're having a lot of fun, and at the same time raising money for the National Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

"The children are also learning about the benefits of looking after their eyes, what benefits it can have for them in school - and in later life as well."

Pupils who have turned up without a pair of shades have been enjoying making their own cardboard cut-outs to represent how important sunglasses are.

One girl at the school said: "It's important to wear sunglasses because if you're reading out in the sun, as it helps you to read."

Another boy said: "If the UV rays got to your eyes they're not strong enough and they could hurt and cause long term damage."
