Rosy future for lotto winners
Lottery ticket
The couple bought the winning ticket from a supermarket

Two council workers from Birmingham are looking forward to a rosy future are scooping a £4.5m share of the lottery jackpot.

Keen gardeners Dan and Alison Hamilton, from the Yardley area of the city, were among four ticket holders who matched all six numbers in last Saturday's draw.

They now plan to spend their substantial winnings on a family holiday in the Canary Islands, the latest Jaguar car and plants for their garden.

Mr Hamilton, who bought the ticket from Safeway in Acocks Green, said he did not believe at first he had won.

'Checked numbers'

"I was in the living room marking the numbers off from Teletext when I realised I had six numbers.

"Not trusting my eyes, I checked them again four times before I could believe it.

"Alison was in the bath and when I told her, she thought I was having her on.

"She phoned her parents - who live nearby - to come over and check the number as well. I think the whole family had checked them by the end of the evening."

Mr Hamilton and his wife, who is in her 40s, have been playing the Saturday Lotto draw since its launch and choose their numbers at random.

The couple's winning combination was 9, 12, 13, 15, 21 and 33.
