A 27-year-old died after he was struck by a speedboat propeller near Bournemouth pier, say police.
Wais Kakar, was swimming east of the pier at about 1800 BST on Sunday when he was hit by the boat.
Mr Kakar, a single man from London, was visiting Bournemouth for the day with a group of friends when the accident happened.
A 40 year old man from Poole who was being questioned on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with Mr Kakar's death has been released on police bail.
Officers are currently examining a boat in connection with the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Redstone said: "The post mortem carried out on Monday by the Home Office pathologist Dr Allen Anscombe concluded that Mr Kakar had received multiple serious injuries.
"Mr Kakar's injuries were consistent with him having been struck by the large propeller blade of a boat.
"We're still trying to establish the exact location where Mr Kakar was struck while out swimming and we're still appealing for anyone who may have videoed the incident to come forward and contact the police.
"I'd like to pass on my condolences to Mr Kakar's family and friends and this very sad and traumatic time. His death was a terrible tragedy," he said.
