A man has been killed in a pile-up in East Sussex which involved five cars and a lorry.
The 44-year-old motorist was airlifted to hospital after the crash which happened on the A27 at Firle near Lewes.
He was driving a Skoda Octavia with four passengers who all suffered slight injuries and were also taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital.
Police said the accident, which happened on Monday at about 1530 BST, closed the road for seven hours.
Casualty cut free
Firefighters from Lewes and Newhaven spent two hours at the scene as well as a heavy rescue unit crew from Uckfield.
A Fire Brigade spokeswoman said crews had to cut one casualty from a vehicle who was released at about 1630 BST.
Two other motorists, a 24-year-old man from Hove who was driving a Rover 200 and the 27-year-old driver of the Volvo articulated lorry suffered slight injuries.
Other cars involved in the crash were a Ford Fiesta being driven by a 35-year-old Eastbourne woman, a VW transporter being driven by a man from Polegate and a Peugeot 306.
None of the other motorists were injured in the collision.
