Toxic spill river recovering
Fish being removed from the river
Tens of thousands of fish were killed
The Environment Agency say the River Slea, which suffered a major pollution incident six months ago, is recovering well.

Insecticide which leaked into the river in Sleaford killed tens of thousands of fish for many miles downstream and also destroyed the invertebrates which fish live on.

The incident was described as one of the most serious of its type in the county.

The agency has since been monitoring the river and says it is pleased with the progress made.

Water levels

John Gyles, who is in charge of the incident, expected they will soon be able to reintroduce fish into the water.

He said: "It is important to get this river back into the condition is was before the incident.

"Now the smaller life which the fish feed on is recovering we can considering reintroducing the fish themselves.

He added: "We have been lucky the past few weeks that heavy rain has topped up the ground water levels.

"In the past few years this river has dried up due to abstraction but this year it is looking fairly healthy."
