Police purge on street criminals
Police on beat
Police officers will target burglars and street thieves
Burglars and street robbers in Hull are being targeted by police who have begun an intelligence-led operation to tackle persistent offenders in the city.

The purge on street criminals is a result of "intense intelligence" gathered by community officers across the city.

They are identifying particular problem areas and criminals who commit offences on a daily basis.

Operation Solvent is a city-wide move by Humberside Police who are working with Drug Action Teams and arrest referral schemes to deal with criminals who operate to fund a drug habit.

We intend...to maximise our results by concentrating on the activities of an identified criminal
DCI Jez Huyton
Detective Chief Inspector Jez Huyton said: "I would suggest the majority of those offenders are chaotic drug users who wake up each day and need drugs.

"This is not an option for them, if they need money for drugs they will get it through crime and unfortunately crime means victims.

"The proceeds of these crimes end up with the drug suppliers."

He added: "We intend to take advantage of the advances in DNA technology and maximise our results by concentrating on the activities of an identified criminal as opposed to individual crimes."
