Prolific burglar jailed for five years
A drug addict who burgled more than 100 homes has been jailed for five years.

Shaun Smith, 30, from Nottingham, carried out the burglaries and attempted burglaries at homes around the city.

Smith admitted four burglaries and asked for another 97 offences to be taken into consideration.

He was desperate for the money to fund a crack and heroin habit costing up to £200 a day, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

One couple who lost £5,000 when he struck at their home cancelled their wedding plans in Las Vegas and moved away for fear of being burgled again, the court was told.

Smith had a string of burglary convictions and was sent to prison for four years in 1997.

His defence said he had got into drugs to try to forget a troubled childhood.
