Three deny hijacking charge

Scales of Justice

Two brothers and their neighbour have denied an attempted hijacking when they appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court.

Stephen Gary Maternaghan, 21, and brothers John Keith McDonald, 26 and Gary McDonald, 20, all from Inishrush Road, Portglenone, were charged in connection with the attempted hijacking of a car and a van near their home on Saturday.

All three deny the charge.

Gary McDonald also pleaded not guilty to possessing an AK 47 rifle, ammunition, an air pistol and three replica guns in suspicious circumstances.

John McDonald and Mr Maternaghan denied having a wooden baton to commit a hijacking.

All three were remanded in custody to appear at Magherafelt District Court on 22 July 2003.
