Rapist jailed for life

A Nottinghamshire man, who twice raped a woman after kidnapping her at knifepoint, has been jailed for life.

Judge Joan Butler QC said Neal Wheeldon, 23, of Moor Street in Mansfield presented a continuing risk to women.

Wheeldon had earlier been found guilty at a trial in March of false imprisonment and two charges of rape.

He had pleaded not guilty and his sentencing was delayed for psychiatric reports to be prepared.

Offenders register

On Monday, Nottingham Crown Court was told a doctor who assessed him believed he was likely to commit further sexual offences.

Wheeldon committed the rapes just five weeks after being released from an earlier prison sentence.

He also has convictions for two other sexually related offences in the Mansfield area.

Judge Butler ordered that he serve at least 10 years before being eligible for parole.

Wheeldon was also placed on the sex offenders register for life.
