A man died during a disturbance near a working men's club in north Derbyshire on Sunday night.
Two men have been arrested and the police are treating the death as murder.
Police officers were called to a disturbance between several men in Clay Cross at about 2015 BST.
They arrested two local men at the scene of the incident, close to the junction of Thanet Street and Denham Street.
The man who died was also described as local.
Officers say there were a number of people in the area at the time, particularly at the nearby Bestwood Working Men's Club and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
