A rooftop protest by prison inmates in Liverpool has finished peacefully.
Prisoners refused to return to their cells from the exercise
yard on Sunday morning.
About 16 of the men climbed on to a roof and refused to come down, after demanding changes to the regime at HMP Liverpool in Walton.
The were calling for more time out of their cells and better access to showers, before the peaceful protest ended.
A Prison Service spokesman said: "The prisoners gave themselves up through the course of the day and the protest
finished at 0330 BST on Monday.
"There were no injuries."
Officers from Merseyside Police surrounded the prison and cordoned off roads.
One man, a member of the public, was arrested to prevent a breach of the peace.
A government report published in May described HMP Liverpool as "seriously under-performing".
Inspectors raised concerns about poor hygiene and prisoners being locked up in cells for too
long.
A new governor, John Smith, was appointed in March to make improvements.
