New chairman for Durham CCC
Chester-le-Street cricket ground
Durham hosted the England v Zimbabwe test match this year
Durham County Cricket Club have officially announced their new chairman following the resignation of Bill Midgley.

Vice-chairman Bob Jackson will take over as chairman for the "foreseeable future".

Mr Midgley stood down on Friday saying he was unhappy at the reaction to his suggestion of opening the members' lounge to non-members to raise money..

He said that because of the reaction he was no longer prepared to spend 30 to 40 hours a week representing members' interests.

Mr Jackson said: "On behalf of each and every member of the Board, I would like to express our thanks to Bill Midgley for the contribution he has made to Durham County Cricket Club over the last four years."

Earlier this year Durham became the first new test venue in a century when it played host to the England v Zimbabwe match.
