A 20-year-old man drowned while swimming at a popular beauty spot.
A search was launched late on Saturday night near Luss Pier, Luss, on the banks of Loch Lomond after his friends raised the alarm.
But Strathclyde Police recovered the body of the man, who is from the Glasgow area, earlier on Sunday.
The force said the tragedy highlighted the dangers of swimming in open water where no lifeguards were present.
Strathclyde Police's Underwater Search Unit and the Luss Pier Boat were involved in the search after the man got into difficulty at 2340 BST on Saturday.
Not been drinking
A police spokeswoman said: "The search continued earlier today and around 9am this morning the body of a 20-year-old man was recovered.
"There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
It is understood the man had not been drinking before he went missing.
On the dangers of swimming in lochs and rivers, the spokeswoman added: "We would advise people, particularly during the warm weather, not to play or swim
in or around open water where there are no life guards present.
"Many lochs and rivers have strong currents and weak or non-swimmers could find themselves on great danger."
