Hotel evacuated after room fire
Tenby harbour
The hotel is on Tenby seafront
A hotel in a seaside resort in Pembrokeshire had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in one of the rooms.

Eighty four guests staying at the Royal Gate House Hotel on Tenby's North Beach were led to safety after the blaze broke out at 0020 BST on Sunday.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service were called out to deal with the blaze which was confined to the window frame of a second floor bedroom.

No one was seriously injured, although some guests are believed to have suffered smoke inhalation.

However, a guest who was in the hotel at the time has spoken of his fear at being told to evacuate the building in the early hours.

'Panicked'

Owain Bellis was in the bar when guests were told to get out.

"It was incredible. I panicked," said Mr Bellis.

He said firefighters had to break into six or seven rooms to account for missing guests. All were eventually accounted for.

Three fire crews - two from Tenby and one from Haverfordwest - used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the fire.

All the guests, except those staying in the room where the fire took place, were able to return inside the hotel by 0150 BST.

An investigation into the fire is being carried out but its cause is thought to have been accidental.
