Officers and crew of HMS York are in the ancient city
The crew of the warship HMS York paraded through the streets of the ancient city on Sunday to celebrate their return from the Gulf War.

Officers and crew were exercising their Freedom rights, accompanied by the South Yorkshire Police Band from Rotherham.

The parade set off at 1100 BST from Duncombe Place and passed through the city before arriving at the Mansion House.

And the salute was taken by the Lord Mayor of York Councillor Charles Hall.

Crew members were inspected by the Civic Party and listened to the reading of the Freedom Scroll before marching through the streets with bayonets fixed and swords drawn.

Lord Mayor Councillor Charles Hall said: "I am pleased to be able to welcome the company of HMS York to the city.

"I wish them a very successful and enjoyable day."
