A British man has been injured during the annual bull run festival in the Spanish city of Pamplona.

David Biggin, 31, from Sussex, was among at least six onlookers who were gored or trampled by bulls during the San Fermin run.

Mr Biggin was left lying on the ground after being tossed into the air by one of the six bulls running through the streets.

He then tried to protect himself as other bulls raced by.

Mr Biggin is now in hospital with head and leg injuries.

At least five more people were taken to hospital, but the number of casualties is regarded as low.

Overcrowding has been blamed for 13 deaths since 1924, when record keeping began.

The last fatality was a 22-year-old American gored to death in 1995.

An estimated, one million people crowded into the city centre for the closing weekend of the festival, which dates back to the 16th Century.

Official runners taunt the beasts as they join the bulls in a stampede to the city's bullring.

Spectators hit the animals with rolled up newspapers as they pass by.

Earlier, three British men - from Brighton, East Sussex and Worthing in West Sussex - staged a naked protest at the festival.

They streaked through the city streets to highlight what they claimed was cruelty to the bulls.

Christopher Black, Michael Greatorex and Adrian Cooper joined 200 activists during the protest on 5 July by running the same route as the bulls.
