Police search for young girl

More than 20 police officers, mountain rescue teams and a helicopter are searching an area of Cannock where a man was seen dragging a young girl.

Two builders driving past in a van saw the girl, aged about eight-years-old, struggling with a man on an access road near an old open cast mining site, near Hedensford Road.

They went back to the area to search for the girl at about 12 noon on Friday before alerting the police.

Stafford Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A police spokesman said they are carrying out a search of the area.

"It may well be that this man is known to the girl and there is nothing untoward but we have to be sure," he said.

The girl is described as slim with mousy brown hair and the man is described as six feet tall and wearing a black or brown jacket.
