Town hall to close for renovation
Leeds Town Hall
The venue can hold up to 1,000 people
A famous concert venue in Leeds is set to undergo major renovation work.

The city's Victorian town hall, which has been a concert venue for more than 100 years, needs urgent repair work on its leaky roof and out-of-date wiring.

The venue will be closed for the duration of the work, which starts next spring, with many musical events scheduled for 2004 being moved elsewhere.

A council spokesman said the town hall "urgently needed" the improvements and must be made suitable for the 21st Century.

Work is scheduled to be completed around Christmas time next year.
