Kitchen under the main stand was badly damaged

A fire at the Glenavon Football Club ground in County Armagh is believed to have been started deliberately.

The boardroom and a kitchen under the main stand were badly smoke damaged.

Glenavon Football Club is based in Lurgan.

Fire officer Michael Kavanagh said the damage could have been more serious.

"Only for the automatic fire alarm system that was in place, the fire could have been much worse," he said.

"The cause of the fire is currently being investigated and at the moment it points to malicious ignition.

"Initial investigations point to something being pushed through the window."
