A 59-year-old man has died after a frying pan fire at his flat in Derby.
Firefighters were called to Stanhope Street in Derby shortly before 1800 BST on Sunday in response to an emergency call.
A Derbyshire Fire Service spokesman said the man apparently tried to put out the fat fire with water after been warned by his smoke alarm.
The water caused burning fat to splash back and set fire to his face and clothes.
The dead man has now been named as Billy Mason a retired cook from Derby.
