Prime Minister Tony Blair has promised to do more to improve road conditions in Spain following the death of a Wrexham teenager.

David Holloway, 17, was killed after being knocked down at a notorious accident black spot in Ibiza last summer.

He was hit by a bus just weeks before his 18th birthday.

At Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday, North Wales MP Mark Tami said a number of holidaymakers were dying on Spanish roads as many did not have pavements.

He called on the British government to approach the Spanish authorities in an effort to get them to improve matters.

Mr Blair gave his condolences to the Holloway family and said the matter had been addressed but he would look at it again.

David's mother Shelagh said she is pleased with the Prime Minister's response.

"At long last it looks like something will be done," she said.

"I'm really lost for words, this is ongoing and it brings everything back to you."

More than 30 British youngsters - including 19-year-old Rebecca Watkins from Neath in south west Wales - have died on the same stretch of road in recent years, according to British officials on the island.

Mr Holloway was killed by a coach in September 2002 on the first night of his holiday in San Antonio.

The bus driver whose vehicle hit him walked free from court last week after the judge went against the evidence of Spanish police who claimed he could have avoided the teenager.

His parents - Richard and Shelagh Holloway from Buckley in Flintshire - have since demanded a re-trial and enlisted the help of their MP Mark Tami who said he wanted justice for the two Welsh teenagers.

As well as bringing that matter to the attention of the House of Commons, he has also written to the foreign secretary and will present a petition to the Spanish Embassy with the families of victims.
