An 18-year-old man will appear in court charged with causing grievious bodily harm and escaping from custody following an incident outside a court.
The charges come after a prisoner allegedly stabbed a security guard outside Market Drayton Magistrates' Court.
The incident happened at 1120 BST on Wednesday.
The prisoner was being transported from the Stoke Heath Young Offenders Institute to the court where he was appearing on a charge of possessing a class A drug.
He was eventually recaptured near the Fairfields Estate, not far from the town's by-pass, an hour later.
The security guard was treated at the scene by ambulance staff before being taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries to his hand.
