Nottinghamshire Fire Service has passed its condolences to the family of a couple involved in a fatal car accident.
A fire engine travelling to an unrelated accident on Friday was involved in a collision with the couple's car, killing a female passenger and injuring the male driver.
Assistant Divisional Officer Andy Bettison said the crew involved were upset by the accident.
"As you can imagine they are obviously very upset by the whole circumstance and we are doing everything we can to give them the support they need.
Fatal collision
"They are dedicated, as we all are, to saving life and to be involved in an incident where unfortunately something of this nature occurred is quite devastating."
The engine, sent out from Dunkirk Fire Station, was making its way to an accident on the Gunthorpe Bridge which had involved a petrol tanker.
The fire truck then collided with a car on the main road through Burton Joyce about 1600 BST on Friday.
An investigation has been launched into how the accident happened.
