Detectives investigating the death of a young man in a hit-and-run accident say they are confident they can identify the type of car that was used.
The man, who has not yet been identified, was hit by a car in Leamington Spa on Sunday.
Warwickshire Police are still trying to trace his relatives.
They say the victim was walking along Lillington Road in Leamington at about 0300 BST when he was hit.
'Motor experts'
He was taken to Warwick Hospital, but failed to recover from his injuries.
The driver of the car, described as possibly a Renault or Peugeot hatchback, did not stop and drove off towards the town centre.
Small pieces of the car have been retrieved from the scene the police believe those clues could be the key.
Detective inspector Peter Windridge said: "It's very important that we identify the vehicle.
"We may have an opportunity to do that from the debris that's left at the scene. We have specialist examiners and experts, and we'll also look to be using experts from the motor industry to support us with that."
CCTV footage
He added: "I'm optimistic that we'll go as far as we can with that. I'm hoping that we will be able to identify the vehicle - that's if the driver doesn't come forward and identify themselves to us."
Police officers will seize CCTV footage from shops and businesses in Leamington Spa on Friday in an attempt to trace the car.
The man who died was described as being white, in his late teens or early 20s, around 5 ft 8 ins with short light-coloured hair.
He was wearing a sky blue coloured jumper and faded jeans.
Anyone with information should contact detectives at Leamington CID.
