Warning over illegal fires
Fort Hommet
There have been a number of illegal fires in the last few days
Guernsey's States has issued a warning over illegal bonfires being held on a Guernsey headland.

The fires at Fort Hommet are threatening natural habitats and could even endanger members of the public said the Board of Administration.

The Board's Property Manager, Martyn Gavet, said damage to the area's wildlife could be irreparable if a fire gets out of control

There is concern they could spread to nearby undergrowth.

Beach barbecues

And the Board is reminding people that fires are not allowed on public land, though small family groups can hold beach barbecues if they dispose of their rubbish.

Mr Gavet said the fires also pose a risk to members of the public.
