The site would have an assessment centre for homeless young people
The Guernsey Youth Housing Project (GYHP) has applied to secure a new headquarters.

The group wants to make use of a building at St James Street as a drop-in centre.

The application to the Island Development Committee (IDC) would be another part of the ongoing project.

The group was formerly based in Havilland Street, but the lease expired forcing it to move to a temporary location.

Emergency accommodation

The new site will allow GYHP to expand its services, if the IDC approves.

There will be an assessment and reception centre for young people who are homeless and the group is also hoping to provide some emergency accommodation.

The project manager, Shane de Carteret, says the centre has been "extremely" busy.

The number of people coming to the group for help is up 20% on last year.

Mr de Carteret says the new premises will allow them to meet more people face to face and provide mediation and advice for young people considering getting their own home.
