A man was rescued from a severe Bristol house fire during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation after the fire at a flat in Pen Park Road, Southmead.

Crews from Parkway, Templeback and Southmead were called to the fire in a ground floor flat at 0500 BST.

They used three high pressure reels, and six breathing apparatus, to bring it under control.

The man was rescued from the flat above, which had filled with smoke.

The cause is unknown.
