Detectives investigating the fatal assault of a County Antrim man have said they believed the motive was domestic.

Robert John Letson, 45, was found unconscious in his flat at Ardmillan Drive on the Rathcoole estate on Sunday last week. He died later in hospital.

The man, known by his middle name John, had sustained injuries to the head and body after being assaulted.

Police said three men had called at his home at about 1300 BST.

They left the flat a short time later, carrying plastic binliners containing clothing and drove off in a silver car.

Detective Superintendent Alan Mains said he believed some residents on the estate knew what happened, and appealed to local people for help.

"They know the three people who were involved - I've absolutely no doubt about that," he said.

"I'm asking them to come forward here, to try and put this sad state of affairs for the family, to bring some sort of logic to it, because at the minute it defies logic."

It is understood Mr Letson was separated from his wife and children.

He lived alone at the flat.
