A motorist has died after two cars collided in a Northumberland town on Saturday evening.
The incident happened at 1830 BST on the A696, just south of the junction with Limestone Way in Ponteland, when a car veered into the path of another.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said a Ford Sierra heading southbound moved into the northbound lane, colliding with a Ford Mondeo.
The male driver of the Sierra was killed in the collision.
Police said the driver and passenger in the Mondeo both suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The identity of the dead motorist is not being revealed until relatives have been informed.
