Landfill site becomes bike track
BMX bike and rider
The track is due to open by next summer
Work is under way to convert a former landfill site near Doncaster into a motorcycle and BMX track.

It is being built at Bentley Moor Lane at Carcroft.

Doncaster Council is organising the work as a way of providing a place where young people can ride safely without disturbing local residents.

Phase one of the work finished in March and involved installing equipment to remove the danger of methane gas from the site.

The second stage will be the development of buildings and hard standing as well as a special membrane for the track.

It is hoped the track will be open by the summer of 2004.

Councillor Margaret Ward said: "Motorcycle and BMX facilities are part of the mayor's pledges to tackle deprivation, crime and nuisance in Doncaster."
