A man has been killed as he tried to help at the scene of a major road accident in Suffolk.

The accident happened at about 2145 BST on Tuesday when a Vauxhall Vectra car lost control on a bend, as it travelled southbound on the A12 at East Bergholt, ending up on its roof.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said a woman who was travelling in the car was taken to Ipswich Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The spokesman said three other people travelling with her are also in hospital with serious injuries.

A 52-year-old man, from Ipswich, stopped to help at the scene, but was hit by a BMW as he crossed the carriageway.

The spokesman called for witnesses to both accidents to contact Suffolk Police.
