Three women killed on M25

Three women have been killed in an accident on the M25 in Surrey.

Police say the women had left their car and were standing in one of the lanes when they were hit by another vehicle.

A section of the motorway is likely to remain closed overnight.

Surrey Police say the women were travelling east on the M25 between Reigate and Leatherhead when the accident happened at about 1630 GMT on Saturday.

Their silver Peugeot appears to have broken down in the outside lane.

Junctions closed

One of the women remained inside the car, but the other three passengers got out.

They were hit by a van which then collided with a sports car on the hard shoulder.

Two of the women were killed instantly. The third died later in Epsom Hospital.

The eastbound carriageway between junctions eight and nine has been shut.
