Rail services 'back to normal'
ScotRail train
Passengers were stranded overnight when the power lines came down

Rail services on the West Coast Mainline were back to normal on Saturday after engineers worked through the night to repair overhead cables.

Network Rail said repair work was finished on the busy line, which connects London to Scotland, by 0700 BST.

Vandalism has not been ruled out as the cause of the incident, which happened five miles south of Lancaster at about 0430 BST on Friday.

About 170 passengers on a ScotRail sleeper service from Inverness to London were stranded after the power lines collapsed at Oubeck.

Other travellers on the line were hit by long delays as engineers worked on the track to repair the problem.

ScotRail said its Sunday evening sleeper service to London would run as normal.
