Silverstone road works to begin
Silverstone
Queues to the F1 track improved last year because of a diversion
Work is set to begin on traffic arrangements for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Two new central reservation cross-overs are being built on the A43 in Northamptonshire, which will allow the road to be used as a temporary one-way access to and from the motor racing circuit.

Highways Agency Project Manager Geoff Chatfield said: "Last year's traffic management arrangements for the Grand Prix worked well, thanks to the partnership between the Highways Agency, Northamptonshire Police, Thames Valley Police and Brands Hatch Circuits Ltd.

"We are continuing this partnership and building on last year's success by improving traffic flow even more."

The £225,000 scheme, to be funded by Silverstone's operator, will take about four weeks to complete.

During the project, which begins on Monday, the outside lane of both carriageways of the A43 will be closed between 0930 and 1530 BST on weekdays.

Closure of the outside lanes will also be necessary 24 hours a day over two or three weekends, except during the spring bank holiday.

A 40 mph speed limit will be imposed for the duration of the works.

In addition to the lane closures, the westbound exit slip road onto the A413 will be closed all day from on 31 May through 1 June.
