Man in court on drugs charges

A 23-year-old man has appeared at a special court in Londonderry to face drugs and weapons charges.

Gary Martin Gerard Harkin, from Templegrove in Derry, was charged with having Class A drugs with intent to supply, and having a gun and ammunition.

It is understood the charges followed a police operation in the Templegrove area of the city on Friday, when ecstasy with an estimated street value of £40,000 was recovered in a house search.

A detective constable told the court that Harkin made no reply when he put the charges to him.

He is expected to appear in court again on 5 June.
