Worker critical after electric shock
Rail workers on a track
The worker was getting ready to install overhead power lines
A rail worker is critically ill after receiving a 25,000 volt electric shock near Birmingham International Airport.

It happened as the man was preparing for the installation of new overhead power lines at Marston Green Station on Tuesday morning.

The man, who has not been named, was sitting in the metal basket of a vehicle travelling along the track at the time he received the shock.

Network Rail said they think electricity from an existing line caused the man's injuries.

He was taken to Birmingham Heartlands Hospital after the incident.

British Transport Police were at the scene of the accident on Tuesday afternoon.

Network Rail are also carrying out an investigation alongside HM Railway Inspectorate.
