Pensioner back on the road
A charity worker who had her moped stolen is delighted to be back on the road.

Mary Pope, who celebrated her 81st birthday on Friday, lost her machine when he went shopping at Tesco in Lichfield on 22 April.

But the police officer who was investigating the theft organised for a replacement vehicle to be funded by local companies.

Mrs Pope used her 50cc Honda to travel around the district helping others.

"Everyone has really been so kind"

Sergeant Jeanette Richards said: "Mary has been given a local hero award. She does a lot of work for the community and this had a devastating effect on her."

Mrs Pope added: "When I lost my moped I thought nobody cares about me at all, I had no visitors and I was really down.

"All of a sudden there was a big turnaround and now I'm more than pleased - everyone has really been so kind."

Bike Tec in Tamworth, Safestyle UK, Norwich Union insurance company and Tesco together raised the funds for the moped.
