Remand prisoner found hanging
Nottingham Prison
The man was on remand before trial
A remand prisoner awaiting trial for the murder of a two-year-old girl has been found hanging in his cell.

Andrew Blacknell, 25, from Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire, was discovered by prison officers at HMP Nottingham on Friday.

Attempts by staff to resuscitate him failed.

Mr Blacknell was charged with the murder of Lauren Hunt, his partner's daughter, last December.

The child died in hospital two days after she collapsed at her home in Newton Street, Mansfield on 7 July last year.

Prison officials said the dead man was not on suicide watch.

A prison spokesman said the police have been informed and there will be an internal prison service inquiry.
