Couple attacked with planks of wood

A couple had to be taken to hospital after they were attacked by a group of youths armed with planks of wood.

The group of about 40 youths had gathered in Crownere Road, Monkmoor, and started to smash some of the fences.

West Mercia Police said the couple, aged in their 30s, went out to try and stop them and were attacked by the group.

They were taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where the woman was treated for a suspected broken arm.

The group were aged between 16 and 18-years-old and were mainly male.

Police are appealing for information about the incident, which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.
